Hovione Loures has been operational with constant growth and up-grading since 1969. The plant was first approved by the FDA in 1982, and is regularly inspected. Since 1987, Hovione Loures has been the object of 3 pre-approval inspections. The site has an Health, Safety and Environment Management System in accordance with OHSAS18001 and ISO14001. The system is periodically audited and reviewed and is ISO14001 and OHSAS18001 certified. With a total reactor capacity of approximately 430m3, Hovione Loures employs 445 people.

The Loures plant operates 7 days per week, 3 shifts a day. An organized structure of 4 teams ensures that operations run 24 hours a day. Plant maintenance shutdown periods take place for 1 to 2 weeks in August.

Hovione receives an average of 600 visitors a year, ranging from customers, industry experts and auditors, suppliers, and student open day visitors.
More than 75 person-days of customer and regulatory audits take place at Hovione yearly.
